Why Alexander?

The Alexander Technique is a unique and revolutionary way to learn how to improve your use of your body and mind in any activity. F.M. Alexander, an orator, developed this method starting from his own attempts to solve a performance problem: losing his voice when performing.

Initially Alexander thought about his work as a method for improving breathing and voice production. He eventually saw it as a way to free the individual’s full physical potentials during any type of performing art, sport, or work.

The Alexander Technique is highly effective in prevention of injury that may be caused due to overuse or misuse of the body. And people seeking posture improvement, or peak skills achievement obtain excellent results from the Alexander Technique.

As my Alexander teacher taught me how to sit in a state of lumbosacral poise, I gradually eliminated my chronic low back pain. The Technique is true education. When compared with the physical and financial cost of back surgery, a course of instruction is very inexpensive.

– J.A., MD, Professor of Radiology

Alexander Technique enables you to drop unconscious habits that interfere with your freedom and efficiency of movement in ANY activity.

Alexander Technique surprised me, as I found that it balanced my body. I learned where I was holding tension in my muscles in a way that made the rest of my body react. Joe helped me experience this in ways that I understood and could correct on the spot. Communication is everything with this technique. I found that the Alexander Technique forces you to engage your body in a way to be aware of your posture, breath, and connection. For me as a fencer it helped me sharpen my skills and technique in the sport and be a better coach.
